Client Profile: Jay Leno, the most iconic late night show host in American television history, showed the world his enthusiasm for cars in a 2015 hit reality TV show, Jay Leno's Garage. Jay’s collection consists of around 136 automobiles — all spectacular and all very pricey.
Client Needs: An action-packed logo animation emphasizing the inner and the outer beauty of the modern car.
My Analysis: Jay stores his cars in a massive warehouse alongside life-sized mural recreations of advertisements for many of them. Leno would even hire NBC artists to paint them for him when they had extra time. I figured a closing profile view of one of his favorite sports cars beneath a monumental steely sign reading, “Jay Leno’s Garage,” would be a nice touch resembling many of his impressive mural ads.
My Process: A stealth, sweeping movement with the steely visuals of the inner car parts — complemented by Jay's name in steel — would symbolically link Jay, himself, with the car. A thoughtful touch, right?
My Outcomes: My animation was flat out rejected, and I never heard from the show’s producers.
