Client Profile: Cobra Ink, a landmark tattoo parlor within the nation's Capitol, designs and inks body art.
Client Needs: An artistic logo animation visually glorifying ink, itself.
My Analysis: The word “tattoo” became the number ones search term on the Internet in 2002. Of those who have tattoos, 70% have more than one tattoo and 20% have more than five. 36% of Americans between the age of 18 and 29 have at least one tattoo. 72% of adults with tattoos have tattoos that are usually hidden by clothing. The Bible has a single reference to tattoos within the Old Testament, which reads, “You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh on account of the dead or tattoo any marks upon you: I am the LORD,” and, thus, the practice is condemned in both Judaism and Catholicism. There is, undeniably, a mysticism and religious significance surrounding the art of tattooing.
My Process: A cloud of black ink permeates a clean body of water — and a Cobra Ink logo emerges. Mystical, and, subconsciously, suggests a purity polluted by sin. Now that’s deep!
My Outcomes: “Tattoo” is no longer the number one search term on the Internet. Hopefully that’s not due to Cobra Ink’s logo animation.
